Best Practice
Children's Choir
Consider starting a children’s music program to get a parish invested in music and more families engaged. Consider forming both a children's choir and an adolescent instrument or vocal ensemble. Be intentional about inviting adolescents who might be involved in band, orchestra or choir at school. Draw on the talents of parishioners and invite music teachers and band instructors to volunteer to help lead and form youth. Invite youth to sing for special liturgies such as Ash Wednesday, Easter, Christmas. Collborate with other parishes to host a summer "camp" to inspire, form, and train young musicians in liturgical music ministry. Consider award music scholarships from the parish to music camps such as Blue Lake and Interlochen to promote the arts and show the parish's support of the youth.
